HIV Test At Kwahu Easter

THE Ghana AIDS Commission, in collaboration with the Atibie Government Hospital, over the weekend organised a free HIV/AIDS test for over 5,000 revelers who stormed Kwahu for the Easter holidays.

Regional Technical Coordinator of Ghana AIDS Commission, Golda Asante, speaking to DAILY GUIDE, said the move by the commission to undertake such process was to educate the people on the need to know their status and where to find help.

“We decided to organise the HIV testing programme on the Kwahu Mountains because during Easter, thousands of people travel here for homecoming activities where human frailties and sexual desires take the sidelines,” she explained.

According to her, the region has a high prevalence rate of HIV and AIDS, “and we saw the occasion as very strategic to help improve on the education and the sensitisation on the disease.”

She indicated that the UNAIDS has targeted to end AIDS by 2030, “therefore, to achieve the target, the UN has launched a project called 90-90-90 which implies 90% of HIV victims must know their status, 90% must have anti-retoviral treatment and lastly 90% must be on viral local suppressed which will end the virus.”

Condom Sharing

Over a thousand revelers at this year’s Kwahu Easter also received a surprise condom package from the Ministry of Health (MoH) to boost their pleasure in the mountainous enclave.

But, before the Health Ministry could go ahead with its laudable initiative, the product was in high demand, prompting fear that the prices may go up.

There was a mad rush for the condoms at the 36 centres where the HIV testing took place.
